A British woman was allegedly gang-raped at a hotel in Delhi’s Mahipalpur by a man she befriended on Instagram and his accomplice. Delhi Police have arrested both suspects and informed the British High Commission. The victim, a 36-year-old London resident, arrived in India on March 7 and visited Maharashtra and Goa before coming to Delhi on March 12.
According to police, the woman had connected with the main accused, identified as Kailash, on Instagram a few months ago. Kailash, a resident of Vasundhara, Mayur Vihar, East Delhi, was known for making Instagram reels. When the woman contacted him during her India trip, he invited her to Delhi instead of traveling to meet her. On March 12, she checked into a hotel in Mahipalpur, where Kailash arrived later with his friend, Wasim.
The three had dinner and consumed alcohol before going to her room. The woman alleged that Kailash sexually assaulted her against her will. When she resisted and created a commotion, Kailash called Wasim into the room, allegedly to calm her down. She also accused a hotel housekeeping staff member of inappropriate touching during her stay.
Feeling unwell the next morning, the woman visited a hospital on March 13, where she informed doctors about the incident. The doctors then alerted the police, who recorded her statement and registered a case. "A man was arrested on charges of rape with a British woman in a Mahipalpur hotel in Delhi. His accomplice was arrested on charges of molestation," police said in a statement. Both accused were taken into custody, and legal proceedings are underway.
Police are investigating the case and examining forensic evidence, CCTV footage, and call records. The British High Commission has been notified, and officials are providing assistance to the victim. Authorities have also questioned the hotel staff as part of the probe. Further legal action will be taken based on the investigation findings.
